Invisible braces are a great solution those in need of orthodontic services. Clients generally range in age from teens to adults. It is an especially practical solution for those who are self conscious about having a metal smile for the next couple of years. Similar to traditional braces they can fix a number of issues ranging inappropriate spacing between teeth to varying bite issues. Each case must be treated uniquely to produce the maximum results. Once your case in accessed by a professional, there are several options to choose from.
The first option to be discussed uses a series of clear plastic trays, otherwise known as aligners, to manipulate the teeth over a period of time. The obvious benefit here is there are no metal brackets or wires involved. Not only are the trays less painful, but they are virtually invisible. No one has to know. Many clients find this aspect esthetically pleasing. Because the trays are removable they allows for better hygiene. This decreases the amount of staining and decay associated with traditional braces. In addition there are no food restrictions due to the frailty of metal braces. This concept allows the patient to remove the trays during eating and drinking. In addition the teeth can be cleaned properly when the trays are removed.
After being diagnosed by a certified cosmetic dentist, a custom set of trays will be created using computer imaging. The first step will involve a series of bite impressions. Three dimensional technologies will then be used to craft a series of custom trays. Each tray will be worn for approximately two weeks. During this time the teeth are gently corrected. Depending on the scope of the case, the cosmetic dentist will determine the length of treatment necessary. On average, treatment usually takes about two years, similar to that if traditional braces.
The second option for invisible braces is similar to traditional metal braces. Using custom hardware, the braces are permanent and they can not be removed. The concept is unique in that the hardware is adhered to the back of the tooth, instead of the front. This procedure also relies heavily on computer technology. The specialist begins by implementing a two step process to take impressions of the mouth. First, a custom tray is developed. Next this tray is used to produce a perfect model of the mouth. The cosmetic dentist then determines how the teeth should set-up with custom wire and brackets. Next the set-up is scanned into the computer. Using specific software, the brackets are then designed. The brackets are first printed, and then cast. The wire is the designed by the computer and produced. The last step is completed using custom tray for indirect bonding.
Although the second option appears to be more complex, it offers a comprehensive treatment, custom designed to your specific needs. More importantly, both treatments offer a solution which is esthetically pleasing. Although the timeframes are similar to traditional braces, invisible braces tend to be slightly more expensive. As with all braces, the cost varies greatly depending on the amount of correction necessary. Prices will also vary depending on your location. Some dental plans do cover orthodontic services, however coverage varies greatly. You should check with your individual insurance provider to determine your coverage.
